At St Mary’s we have Collective Worship every day where all children gather in the hall to worship together. Our collective worship strengthens and supports the Christian identity of our school and reaffirms our vision and associated core values of Compassion, Friendship, Koinonia and Trust. Our vision is rooted in the bible and supports children to understand that we are all connected together through Christ.
When is collective worship?
- Monday 2:40pm
- Tuesday 2:40pm
- Wednesday 2:40pm
- Thursday 2:40pm
- Friday 2:30pm
All staff lead our collective worship throughout the academic year. We use Roots and Fruits to explore our core values. As well as this, we have a value each half term that staff explore deeply throughout our collective worship calendar.
The Reverend Martin Otter is our vicar of our parish – the United Parish of Marston Moor, which includes Bilbrough, Askham Richard, Long Marston, Rufforth and Tockwith. Revd. Otter leads our school collective worship once a week alongside Karen Flood.
Ann Watson comes in 3 times a term to deliver Open the Book. Open the Book is an exciting storytelling project where Bible stories are shared with children in a way that is fun, interactive and memorable. Ann Watson uses the Open the Book Programme to prepare and present a 10–15-minute scripted Bible story to a school assembly, involving the children as much as possible.
We have services for Easter, Harvest and Christmas in St Mary’s church, Askham Richard.
