At St Mary's, religious education is at the heart of our school life, enriching our children's spiritual and moral development. We follow the Understanding Christianity framework for our Christianity units, providing a deep and meaningful exploration of Christian beliefs and teachings. For all other religious studies, we use the York Agreed Syllabus, ensuring a broad and inclusive approach to understanding the world's religions.
Our goal is to equip children with the skills to explore and learn about diverse faiths, fostering an open-minded awareness of the world's spiritual diversity. Collective worships play a key role in our school, where we further reflect on these themes and deepen our understanding of Christianity and other faiths.
We are fortunate to have beautiful grounds, including a sensory garden, forest school, and reflective spaces, which provide perfect opportunities to explore spirituality in a natural and peaceful setting. Through these experiences, alongside the support of the York Diocese, we ensure that our Christian distinctiveness is woven throughout everything we do..
